Anne Cockrill Wait

Obituary Notice

Anne Cockrill Wait, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005. She was a resident of Presbyterian Village. She was born in Little Rock on January 16, 1914, the daughter of Jennie Mitchell Cockrill and Chester Ashley Cockrill. She was married in 1935 to Frank Evans Wait who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents, her brothers, James Mitchell Cockrill, Sterling Robertson Cockrill, Chester Ashley Cockrill, Jr., and Harry Howard Cockrill and her sister Jane Cockrill Thompson. 

She is survived by a daughter Anne Gardner of Searcy, a son Frank E. Wait of Little Rock, one grandson, Reed Gardner of Mobile, Alabama, three granddaughters; Libby Gardner of Little Rock, Cindy Sloan of Houston, Texas, Robin Musick of Maumelle, and six great-grandchildren. 

Anne attended Sweet Briar College in Lynchburg, Virginia and Little Rock Junior College. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, the Junior League of Little Rock, the Country Club of Little Rock, and Button Willow Hunting Club where she was affectionately known as Mama Mallard. 

There will be a graveside funeral service held Friday at 11am at Roselawn Cemetery, officiated by The Reverend R. Ewing Jackson. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Memorials in lieu of flowers should be made to the Center for Youth and Families, formally known as the Elizabeth Mitchell Home, named for her grandmother who started the facility to serve orphaned children, or to a charity of ones choice. 

The family will be at 2423 North Fillmore Friday Afternoon.
