Sharon R. "Sherry" Bischof

Sharon R. "Sherry" Bischof

When asked how she was doing, Sherry Bischof would invariably respond, “if I were any better, I would ascend.” Sherry ascended to her heavenly Father on March 24, 2014 peacefully with family at her side at Hospice Home Care in Little Rock.

Sherry was born September 28, 1941 in Ripley, Mississippi to Alleen Carpenter Rothchild of Hamburg, Arkansas and James Lawrence Rothchild of Oxford, Mississippi.

Sherry attended Hamburg public schools and graduated from Hamburg High School in 1959. She attended “Ole Miss” her freshman year in college and transferred to ASTC (now UCA) from which she graduated in 1964. At ASTC, she was a cheerleader and was on the staff of the College Newspaper, “The Echo.” While at ASTC, Sherry met the love of her life, Rudy Bischof, whom she married on Christmas Day, December 25, 1964.

Sherry began her teaching career at Oak Grove High School in North Little Rock, Arkansas in 1964. After her children were born, she stayed home to be with the children. She taught at Christ Lutheran School after her children started school and retired from Christ Lutheran School after more than twenty years of service.

Sherry is survived by her husband of 49 years, Rudy Bischof of Little Rock, her children, Bill Bischof (Maia) of Denton, TX, Ben Bischof (special friend, Jennifer Johnson) and daughter Barrie Bischof Torrey (John) all of Little Rock.

In addition, she is survived by her brother Michael Rothchild (Glenda) of Katy, TX and sister Sallynda (Allen) Dennison of Westerville, OH, brothers and sisters in law, Rob and Diane Bischof of Hot Springs, AR and John and Lise Bischof of Houston, AR, and mother in law, Maggie Orfanos Bischof Cecil of Hot Springs, AR. She is preceded in death by one her sister, Lee Wills.

Sherry leaves five grandchildren, John, David and Jesse Bischof, Maggie and Luke Torrey all of Little Rock and her most recent grandchild, Alexios Romanes Bischof of Denton, TX.

Sherry was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church in Little Rock where she taught Sunday school and served on various church boards.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Little Rock and the Sherry Bischof Scholarship Fund at Christ Lutheran School in Little Rock.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Hospice Home Care in Little Rock, the ICU staff at UAMS and the Oncology Staff at UAMS along with Dr. K. Arnaoutakis and to Pastors James Walter and Paul Jilg, Sr., of Grace Lutheran Church in Little Rock for their kindness and compassion.

Honorary pallbearers are “Monday Matinee,” “Big Girls Bridge Club,” the “Band of Sisters,” and the Hamburg High School class of 1959 all of whom she loved dearly.

Visitation with the family and friends will begin at 1:00pm Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Grace Lutheran Family Center followed by a memorial service and celebration of Sherry’s life at 3:00pm in the sanctuary of Grace Lutheran Church, 5124 Hillcrest Rd, Little Rock. Condolence Book

"I was deeply saddened when I heard about Mrs. Bischof's passing and in an instant my mind was flooded with precious memories of her. One of the last times I saw Mrs. Bischof, I got the biggest hug from her. Anyone that knew her knows every time you saw her, you saw a smile that couldn't brighten any room. My prayers go out to her family, friends, and students. While we mourn the loss of a great woman, we rejoice in knowing she is with our Lord and Savior. "
Ashley Roberts | Little Rock, AR |

"Mrs. Bischof taught me to answer the phone, "This is she," rather than "This is her." She taught me not to let my "halo slip into a noose." And she taught me that a warm smile and a sincere joy to see someone can affect that persons entire day.
I consider Mrs. Bischof my favorite teacher, and the reason that I had the confidence to pursue a degree in Journalism.
Hopefully my daughter will have a Mrs. Bischof someday, even if she can't have the original.

My sincerest condolences
CLS c/o '90"

Nancy Stiles | Little Rock, AR |

"My fondest memories of Christ Lutheran's staff immediately lead to Mrs. Bischof. She taught me more of English in junior high than I learned until seeking that very major in college. Her humor, kindness, yet utter dedication to teaching will forever have an impact on us students. My grandmother often picked me up in that infamous car pool "swirl" at CLS, and she always spoke to Mrs. B. I called her when I got the news and we talked for a while, remembering her, and I heard wonderful stories that will be in my heart always. I know she's sitting with Jesus now, and however hard it is to lose such a spirit on Earth, we will certainly see her again. "
Laura (Harding) Reiger | Colorado Springs, CO |

"I am so sorry for your loss and offer words of comfort. Rev.21:4 says: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." God always fulfills his promises. (Numbers 23:19)"
