"To The Steve Mourning Family: I was so sadden to read of Steve's passing in this morning's newspaper. Steve and I worked together at the March of Dimes many years ago. I was his secretary, and we formed a great friendship. He was smart, kind, sweet, and so funny. His twins were just little tots when I knew him. I was so sad when he left the MOD and we kept in touch for awhile when he moved to Denver, but alas, we lost touch with each other. I have often wondered where his life had taken him. I am so sorry we didn't reconnect in these recent years. You have my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Heaven has gained a wonderful young man. "

My thought and prayers are with you at this very difficult time. I have been blessed to meet Steve a few times on his frequent trips to Australia through his association with the Fundraising Institute of Australia. He was an inspirational man of great experience, and ever enthusiastic about his love of the not-for-profit sector and Philanthropy in general. After chats with Steve, and listening to him speak I always came away feeling inspired, motivated, and blessed that I was living my dream. "Anne,
Last summer when you, Steve, and I walked around the grounds of MHS in planning for our reunion, I remember him stopping and pointing to a particular walkway and saying, "That's where I first saw Anne Taylor." I won't forget the look on his face, nor on yours. It was a moment I was privileged to share with you both. As many have already said, your happiness brought us happiness, too. My heart breaks that your time together was shorter than any of us could imagine. Still, as Sara Teasdale says" Give all you can for love. Buy it and never count the cost...."

Gil and I were devastated to learn of Steve's sudden death. It is an unbelievable tragedy that your time together was cut so short, especially after finding one another again after all these years. Your happiness was obvious to everyone: you could hear it in your voices and see it in the expression on your faces. ""...We don't always understand; we just don't always see... what it is God has planned for his children, you and me..." Like so many others, I was shocked and saddened at the passing of such a wonderful specimen of God's creation. Steve was a "cut-up" in high school, but also a caring and compassionate individual -- he left a lasting impression on all who were privileged to have crossed paths w/him, as evidenced by the accolades recorded herein. I trust it is a comfort to know his time here on earth was so valuable to so many, and I pray you were able to create beautiful memories to sustain you until you're together again. You made him very happy

"Anne,
As you know, Steve and I had a friendship that went back to 1989 when he became my planned giving guru. Little did I know at that time that he would bring me into the field of planned giving and become my partner in two season tickets to the SF Niners. While his passing is devastating to all of us who knew him his life was a blessing to us and we will miss him dearly.
Frosty and I were so happy when we learned about his new girlfriend in Little Rock and even happier when the two of you were married. We were thrilled to meet you and we had fun at the tailgate and Niners game you attended with us. To quote Steve, he was "marrying up."
I remember when I was planning my first trip to the AHP Conference in Madison and he jokingly asked me if I had "arranged for a bail bondsman." We had great fun "discussing" politics, an area where we had very little in common except how ridiculous politicians are.
The shock of his passing has been felt by all of his friends and colleagues in the Bay Area. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Steve's family.
Finally, I just want to add that very few men have experienced being married to two wonderful, kind and smart women as Steve was with you and Elizabeth and to have had such lovely daughters and grandchildren. He was indeed blessed."

"Anne,
Find solace in knowing that in your and Steve’s coming “full circle” and reuniting, he could not have better orchestrated the end of his time here. The marriage that evolved from the rekindling of distant memories - albeit too brief - now becomes one of the sweet legacies of his life story. Know that those of us who walked those same halls at MHS with the two of you come together again and hold you in our hearts . . . may that knowledge be of some comfort as you start down the path that will - ultimately - lead you back into the sunshine.

"Dear Anne and Steven's family,
You will never know me, but I knew Steven, from the very first day he met my friend and co-worker, Elizabeth Luna. I attended their wedding, worked on many projects with Elizabeth, watched and visited as Elizabeth became ill and saw especially the wonderful and tender way in which Steven cared for her. I helped Steven plan her memorial. And then I was particularly thrilled to hear he had re-connected with a high school friend, was planning to marry and return to his hometown and family. I thought "what a sweet story" and how glad I was that Steven would be happy again. I am so sorry that your time with such a warm, caring, smart, and fun man was so short, but it sounds that even in the short time, you built many wonderful memories with old friends. You are in my thoughts during this very difficult time."

"Steve and I go back a long way and I will miss his humour and love of life. When I first met Steve, I was part of a team pitching the DM business at Palo Alto Medical Center and Steve joked about having to look to "our Canadian friends to the north" for assistance. To Steve's credit, we got the business and went on to help PAMF raise lots of money for many years. Thank you Steve for this opportunity. I will miss our interaction and joking at the various conferences we attended. To Steve's family, my sincere condolences and hopefully you will all find great comfort in the many, many happy memories you have of a really wonderful person."

"Steve and I were contemporaries in the Hospital development field for many years. I am his age so we both "grew up" in this profession together. He was all that is reflected in his obituary. A kind, caring man who gave back to our world more than any of us will ever know. My sincere sympathy to his family. It is always so very difficult to lose someone suddenly. "

"Dear Anne
I do not believe that we have met but I knew Steve from a different life and time...from time to time I find myself thinking about him and just smiling; now that he has gone home I do not think that will change...he is a kind, intelligent and opinionated gentle man... a person you call friend no matter where you are or how long it has been...
Kind Regards
michael stoll"
