Biography: Anna Kate McHenry (Katy) was born on November 30, 1968. She died on September 10, 2016 at UAMS, where she received excellent care. She attended Westover Hills Nursery School, Forest Park Elementary, Stephens Intermediate, Pulaski Heights Junior High, and graduated from Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. She made many lifelong friends along the way. Determined to go to California, she went to Loyola Marymount College in Los Angeles. Deciding that California was not as interesting as she had imagined, she transferred to William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri, and then graduated from UALR with a degree in Studio Art. Later she studied Interior Design at UCA. Katy loved to travel. She was proud of her kayaking adventure with Outward Bound in Mexico. One of her favorite destinations was St. John. She loved road trips and was known to take off and drive cross country to visit a friend, to follow the Grateful Dead, or to find an adventure. She loved camping. She loved her dogs. She loved being an aunt. She was a free spirit, an artist, and a spiritual and creative soul. She is survived by her father, Robert McHenry and his wife Donna; her mother, Mary Lee Darr McHenry and her partner, Bill Sneed; her sister, Frances Caroline McHenry Carter and her husband Jimbo of Little Rock; her sister, Lisa Darr McHenry White and her husband Rich of Chevy Chase, Maryland; four nieces and nephews, Casey Clare Carter, Hannah Maureen White, Charles McHenry White and Lee Tucker White; and many loving friends. She is predeceased by her grandparents, Frances Clare and Percy Porter Darr and Pauline Dugger and Robert Moore McHenry Sr. of Conway, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 16 at 2 p.m. at Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church. Memorials may be given to Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, UAMS Arts Council, or the Pulaski County Humane Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home, www.ruebelfuneralhome.com.

I remember meeting Katy with Lisa when I was an awkward college freshman and thinking that she was so very glamorous and colorful and effortlessly cool. I am heartsick for your family's loss and sending my love and deepest sympathies.

Dear Bob and Mary Lee,
I am sorry to learn of Katy's passing. I know that loss is beyond words. I can only hope that you may find some comfort in knowing that this wonderful, funny, beautiful girl that you lovingly raised, will always be deeply missed and sweetly remembered by the scores of lives and friends that she touched. She was exceptional without effort. She had her Mother's smile, kindness, grace and commonsense. She had her Father's sharp wit and sense of fearlessness. She parlayed those gifts into a life full of fun and adventure - making endless memories and countless friends along the way. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Bob and Mary Lee,
I am so shocked to hear this news of Katy. Please accept my sympathy and know that I am feeling your grief. I wish Julie and I could have gotten to know all the girls better but distance when growing up prevented that.
In case you don't know we lost Mom (June) on 12/6/13 from lung cancer. She fought it for 5 years until it won.
Take care and know I am thinking of all of you.

Dear McHenry Family,
I am so saddened by the news of Katy's transition from the physical to the spiritual realm. I remember Banana Kate so fondly as her Fifth Grade teacher at Stephens Elementary. She had the most beautiful blue eyes and was artistically very creative. She also had a wacky sense of humor that would cause the class to crack up.
Many years later my son, Michael Levin, was at Central High with Katy and in a couple of classes together. Both Katy and Michael were November birthdays.
There are really no words of comfort or wisdom I can offer you. I merely wanted to let you know I never forgot her. Some students just leave that kind of mark, Katy was one of them.

Though it's been many years, I have such fond and fun memories of growing up as neighborhood playmates with Katy, Lisa and Fran. Christmas caroling from your warm and welcoming home stands out the most :)
I know this is a heartbreaking time for your family and for all who've lost Katy. Wishing peace and serenity to all and sending so much love.

I am so, so sad to hear this. I have wonderful memories of growing up next door to "the McHenry girls" and Katy was a special friend for many years. I remember roaming the Heights, playing statue in the Haley's grass, sleepovers and late night toilet paper rolling, kickball on the world's steepest hill, forts and tree houses. So many good times. I am sending peace and love to my friend, Katy. And to Mary Lee, Bill, Bob, Fran, Lisa and the rest of the family--hugs and comfort to each of you.
