Biography: Lee Ann Mathes Illing was born January 29, 1934 in Memphis, TN, and passed peacefully from this life at her home, on October 10, 2016. Her husband, Robert Illing, the love of her life, predeceased her in 1996. Ms. Illing grew up in Helena, AR and graduated from Central High School in 1951. She continued her education achieving her R.N. from Baptist Memorial Hospital in 1956, and earned her B.S. in 1966 from Memphis State University. Her nursing career spanned over 40 years. She started in neonatal care, and even helped to birth her niece, Kathy. She retired from the VA Hospital in Little Rock, AR in 2001; board certified in Infection Control and Epidemiology. One of her joys in life was doing for others, and she mentored and taught many in her field. She was generous, adventurous, and loved rollercoasters, fancy cars, good food, and all critters. Affectionately known as the ultimate LOL, for her spontaneous joy and laughter. While she didn?t have children of her own, she loved just like a mother. She was also known as ?Nanny,? a family nickname that lasted throughout her adult life. Another great joy in her life was traveling every year with the ?Valentines,? her life long friends from grade school. She is survived by her step-daughter, Robin Fisher; step-son Bobby Illing; nieces, Kathy Mathes and Francie Braddock; and nephew, Mike Mathes. Her brother, Dan Mathes, predeceased her in 1994. The family wishes to give special thanks to Doug Ballinger and staff at First Light Home Care of Little Rock ,and Kindred Hospice who helped care for her during her illness. Lee Illing?s memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 10:00 am, at St. Paul United Methodist, 2223 Durwood Rd., Little Rock, Arkansas.
