Biography: Matt DeCample, 44, of Little Rock, passed away March 3, 2019 after a long battle with cancer. Matt was born on August 21, 1974 in Seattle, Washington, to Richard and Linda DeCample. Matt graduated from Oliver M. Hazen High School in Renton, Washington, in 1992. He received his Bachelor?s Degree from the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at Washington State University in 1996 and remained a devoted Cougar fan until his passing. Matt was a reporter for television station KAPP in Yakima, Washington, before transferring to their sister station KVEW in the nearby Tri Cities. He relocated to Little Rock in 1999 to work for KATV. From television he moved on to work as the spokesman for then-state attorney general Mike Beebe in 2003. His work with Beebe continued through Beebe?s tenure as governor from 2006 through 2014. After Beebe left office Matt went on to start his own company, working in media relations as a consultant and spokesman for organizations such as the Arkansas Cinema Society and the Little Rock Film Festival. Improv comedy was an important part of Matt?s life, and he could often be found performing on stage with Improv Little Rock and The Joint Venture. Matt is survived by his parents, Richard and Linda DeCample; his sister, Julie Schuler; his niece Reagan, and extended family. A memorial service is scheduled for Sunday, March 10th, at 2pm in the Great Hall at the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock. A second, Seattle-based service will happen in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (www.cholangiocarcinoma.org/)

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and loved ones of Matt DeCample ? the bravest, kindest, most thoughtful, upbeat and inspiring person I have ever met in my life: a fact! Lisa and I were blessed to have had shared time with Matt ? to talk, to debate, and to philosophize on human nature, politics and the marvelous works and wonders that surround us; but, most of all we laughed together and basked in Matt?s endearing zest for life. Just a few weeks ago we enjoyed visiting with Matt following an improv show at The Joint. Albeit he was gaunt and seemingly a shadow of his former self his charm and light still filled the stage, his spirit was strong and unrelenting, and his humor quick and biting, bringing laughter to the room and magic to our hearts. Wow!! Matt just never ever stopped living ? barely even slowed down, leaving no time to feel sorry for himself even in the face of great adversity. Matt once teased me for always making plans for the future, never thinking about our mortality, and being overly optimist ? but I never looked at Matt as ever leaving, such thoughts were never entertained, for in my world we would grow old together. Things are different now but Matt and I will continue to grow old together ? he?s never going to leave me ? my heart simply won?t allow that. We love you Matt and always will.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to each of you for your loss.? Losing our loved ones is very painful. While we are relieved that they are no longer suffering in sickness and pain, it still leaves us with a broken heart.

Our heavenly Father assures us that our loved ones can and will live again. He hates death and views it as an enemy. He has a longing to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of the resurrection.
